My hubby and I are considering going on a Cruise to Bermuda. How do people dress at night. I know there are twp formal nights but what about the rest. We have not cruised on 20 years. Thank you

@I am still oxox I have been on this cruise with Celebrity twice and it is pretty much casual but people tend to dress up. It's totally up to you.  They didn't have the fancy dinner with the captain like they did years ago.  I think it depends on what tier you are meaning how much you spend on the rooms you get more perks like going to fancier restaurants they have that would be included in yourpackage. You can still go to those restaurants but you will be charged for it.

Check the literature they send you once you reserve your cruise. Sometimes the descriptions of the dress code are very specific.

Re: Dressing on a Cruise

[ Edited ]

Yes, it depends on the cruise line. I the past, if you didn't dress up, you weren't permitted to dine in the main dining room for dinner.  On most cruises, this rule is not required anymore. Some people dress to the nines on formal nights if that's what you want to do. My husband and I usually do not partake as it adds too much to pack and special care. If I do feel like being "formal", I wear simple lightweight dressy wear that can be glittery or sparkly. FYI: Celebrity requires no shorts anytime in their evening dining rooms.  Hope you have fun and enjoy your cruise!

I've seen people really dress up for the evening (special evening) and those who did not and everything in between.  Women in gowns to a nice pair of slacks and top and men in a tux to a nice polo shirt and khakis.  In 2021 I went on a Disney Cruise.  Didn't think their "dress up night" that many would would go all out but actually theire were A LOT of people really dressed up.  Gowns, tux, etc.  Many getting formal pictures taken.  A  lot has to do with the cruise line itself, so do look into that, and length of the cruise.  Shorter cruises (under 5 days) do not seem to have a dress up night, that has been my experience.  Do research.  Go on YouTube and watch videos of formal night, especially on Celebrity if that is your plan.  Google the information you're looking for.  While I don't think they have Captain's Night anymore, most do have a formal night and/or officers night.  You do you.

We didn't dress up for formal nights either. We either ate elsewhere or if we did go I wore black pants and a nicer top and that's it. Hubby had a suit. I'm not going to waste money on fancy duds that I'll never wear again for a night or two plus that stuff takes up valuable real estate in luggage. I'm on vacation not there to impress a bunch of people I don't know or will ever see again. On normal days I wore jeans or khakis and sneakers. Were not big on fancy.

Thank you all. I have one nice dress that I plan on wearing to weddings in the future and I think I will buy one glitz top to wear with my black pants. The other nights should fall into place I just ordered a pair of the TSV pants in white which I can pair with my many tops

In this day & age with all of the restrictions on luggage (unless you fly first or business but even then you still have to be able to maneuver suitcases), packing formal wear is a PITA!  Takes up too much valuable luggage space.

Even if you brought dressy black pants that can be dressed up or down with a simple lightweight sparkly top there is still the issue of dressy shoes which take up too much luggage space.
