I don't know where to ask this, so I'll ask here - what's the difference? TIA!

Backorder means they have one but they can't find it.

Waitlist means you have to wait for someone's return.

this is only my opinion

for backorder I think they are ordering more from the factory or from where ever they are getting an item

for waitlist I think they are waiting for returns and then going to send them out because it is 30 days to return an item and 45 days for waitlist which gives them time to send out the item again/// but then sometimes a wait list order would just be filled from a cancelled ordered

Waitlist also is a good thing to be on (when a new color has been entered into the system on an existing item). You will receive the new color before the item is offered to the masses. Usually as will happen, you may lock in an older price before the price goes up with the item being offered once it is truly available.

TY ladies, and thanks for the advice JustJazzmom! I always thought those little dotted lines that showed "waitlist" meant those colors weren't available to order. Now I know! Smile

I had a few things on backorder recently and was told there was a very good chance I would get them. Well, all of them canceled on me today! I called CS and they said that the manufacturer/supplier couldn't get any more to fulfill the order. So, backorder doesn't guarantee you will receive it or is better than waitlist for that matter.

Oh well... I guess I have to look at it as they saved me some money in the end.

I asked the same question once of CS -- I was told that waitlist you were "highly" likely to receive; but backorder -- "doubtful." I've yet to receive anything that was backordered -- as soon as I see that status, I cancel and move on to something else. Waitlist, however, has always worked for me.
