A friend is taking a new job and it requires business attire beyond what she's been able to work with so far from her own closet.

Outfits have to be purchased.

She's petite, and this is new territory for her.

Talbots offers Petite in most things and has clothing suitable for office wear. They have great sales too.

I think the type of business makes a difference in the degree and quality of what to purchase. 

For example, what an entry level employee might wear in a local insurance office or small business office is to me different than one might wear in a law office or financial institution. 

I agree about Talbots and would also suggest Chico's. Even here on QVC most lines have some items suitable for business and many have petites.

My suggestion would be Susan Graver at QVC.  All her pants, most jackets, etc. come in petite length and are office quality.  I have worn many over the years to my job in a professional office.

Yes Talbots is good for Petite sizing but for some reason their sizing was not a good fit for me.  However, my friend who was CFO for a large hospital wore alot of Talbots.

Susan Graver ponte pants and blazers are perfect for the office. They come in petite and she can buy nice blouses to go with pants and make many outfits. I would also recommend Ann Taylor, Loft and Talbots Petite for finding other clothing for her as well.

You can't go wrong with Talbots business wear.  Impeccable taste and class and they will last for a long long time.

Dillard's always had "dress" slacks in petite.   (My local mall has been bulldozed...so I don't know if they STILL offer the same clothing at their other locations.)

I find petites pretty much everywhere any more.  Never use to be like that back in the day.  Depends how dressed up she has to be.  It does make a difference on type of business she will be working for.  What do they require for a dress code?

I would look for better clothes that will last and look nice for a long time and can mix and match with lots of pieces.  Start with basics for sure and build from there.

Years ago I bought all my suits from Macy's. They still have some great suit offerings.

When I was working our office was business casual and I just wore nice pants and a blouse or polo shirt and any shoe that wasn't a sneaker. The guys had to wear a tie. After a couple of months it went casual and I wore Dockers and a polo shirt and the guys ditched the ties. Business casual means different things in different parts of the country. In Arizona it's a sun dress, sandals, pants that aren't jeans and a decent shirt. In other parts it could mean a suit and heels. I wouldn't buy a bunch of clothes until I saw what others are wearing first. Or she could call her boss as ask what she suggests. That's what I did because I came from a place where I wore jeans, a tee and sneakers every day. I didn't have any dressy clothes.
