Anyone with trigeminal neuralgia

If so, how did/do you treat it and if you have ever had either Cyberknife or Gammaknife, please tell me what you think/thought about it. Thank you in advance for any responses and considerations/answers you can give.

I posted this here as this forum has the most traffic and as this is a somewhat rare illness, I am hoping that overall I will elicit some responses.

Re: Anyone with trigeminal neuralgia

My husband had it and was treated with micro vascular decompression. It was a total success, thank God.

I should have qualified that by saying I am not a candidate for MVD but I am so happy it worked for your husband. This disease is a fate I cannot wish on my worst enemy. I have MS and the lesions of TN do not respond as they are different than the artery/nerve situation. Mine are removal of the myelin sheath which is like removing the insulation from an electrical cord.

I am so happy that worked for your husband. I hope it will last forever. Give him my regards. Thank you for your reply.

Re: Anyone with trigeminal neuralgia

My mother suffered with it for almost 4 years & was prescribed an anti seizure medication that was of little to no help. Finally, we found a doctor that recommended gammaknife. At the age of 81 she had the procedure done and it was a complete success. After approximately two weeks following the procedure, she was 100 percent pain free. Usually it is an outpatient procedure but, due to her age the doctor had her stay in the hospital overnight as a precaution & she was discharged in the morning. All I can say is that her recovery seemed nothing less than miraculous. My mother passed away at the age of 91 this past year but, she never had a problem with trigeminal neuralgia again. It is an awful & terribly painful affliction. I certainly hope that you that you consider gammaknife & wish you all the best. If I can answer any questions for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you and I am so happy to hear your mother had 10 painfree years. That is a God send. Thank you and I hope I am just as successful and blessed as your dear mother.
