I like them, but not on me. I don't have the height to carry that much material
I prefer a cape or a nice sweater

I have a beautiful ruana I got during an Irish show that I just love. Then one day a cat walked into my closet, eyed it and...yakked.
That cat and every cat that has ever lived is never allowed in my bedroom again.
You would think if they had any taste they could of just done it on a pair of denim culottes.

I wear them all the time. I live where we have real winters and even when it's cold I wear capes. They're long and heavy.

Gili has a new cape . It's not a winter weight, if you live in a cold climate. I think it's cute ,and not real long, nor is it heavy looking
It comes in several colors

I wear a lot of ruanas, wraps, capes, ponchos. I have quite a few plaid ruanas/wraps that I wear over a turtleneck and matching pants. I think they really amp up a plain outfit.

Martha Stewart's ruanas are very nice - I get compliments every time I wear one.

I love them. However I'm not completely sure of the distinction as I have a Barefoot Dreams ruana and a Martha Stewart ruana and the BD is like a poncho while the MS is like a wrap. I've been wearing the BD ruana a lot lately when I go to the mall or out walking. With the poncho type, I have to put on my crossbody bag underneath the ruana so that it all lays right on the body. A ruana/poncho ias great because once you put it on, it's done. No need to tend to it again. That isn't the case with a wrap which you may have to adjust from time to time. For that reason, I prefer the ruana/poncho. That said, the Martha Stewart ruana/wrap is high quality and looks great.
Unless I"m going to be outdoors for a while, I don't use a winter coat. I live in a NY suburb and find that I"m mostly popping in and out of the car to go to various stores, dr. appointments, restaurants, etc. I just don't want to be bothered with a warm coat.

@indiepup wrote:you might want to try the ruana by barefoot dreams if it's in your price range (or wait for a sale). i am about your size (5'4" and 104 lbs) and I tried it on in a store before deciding that it was perfect for me! You can adjust it so that it lays different ways on the body. Otherwise, most of these styles are too big for me too.
I just splurged and bought this one in chambray for my 50th birthday gift to myself!
'absolutely, ' ruana(s) from Barefoot Dreams
Your chambray must be stunning. Great choice~
I appreciate different ruanas and beautiful wraps to wear almost any time , not so much while in home, rather for dress, or almost every occasion, from a meet and greet, weddings and to funerals..( 'IF' going to an outside) memorial service.
I am 5' 5" -110 and find not one that I own has a uncomfortable fit. Fabric and weight is what I find, first.
It may be that mine are either crocheted ( not me), or hand knitted by three different talented friends that are naturally gifted doing creations, as a side line.
I had to be measured and choose the fabrics /color/or its add on. EX: a small pocket, a raised collar, or tiny hooks to justify one button having something from a symbol or a flap that extends over and then can be dropped which is very classy and gives me the style best suited for my size guide.
I have at least 3 that my mother made and gifted me years ago, still as stylish as any one being seen from any fashion clothing line, today.
If massed produced, made in China, there is no comparison-whatever- to me.
Thank you, OP for the question: I am seeing more and more woman wearing both, now, than five years ago.
Yes, I adore these, hopefully, can pass each down when older or no need for.
An lost art..`` if hand made, I believe. (??)
