I've always wondered about that, too - the producers are listening to the show and they talk to the hosts, do they tell the hosts they sound muffled when they have a coat or sweater over their mic?

This is one thing that drives me nuts.  These are seasoned hosts.  They should know better but if they forget, a producer should tell them.
