I always pack light, taking as little as necessary. I can't imagine packing different shoes, purses, jewelry & accessories for each outfit. I am very casual now that I'm retired & out of the work office.

I finally have a mix and match wardrobe that I could probably do this. I can't imagine taking an extra purse! I try to just take one other pair of shoes.

Me too!
One swimsuit would never work for me, no matter where I'm going. And I need more than one cover-up too. Things get sandy/wet/spilled on/whatever.
If I'm traveling on vacation, I have no desire to wash out underwear (or any clothing item) at night. And if I'm traveling on business, I'm too tired at the end of the day to have to worry about that. I bring all the undies/bras that I'll need. The small amount of room they take up is well worth it, IMO.
I don't mind finding many uses for one thing, but not if it feels or looks too forced. If I'm going to a 4-star restaurant for dinner, I don't want any part of my outfit to be something I wore to the beach earlier in the day. And I don't want to be walking around a city in shoes that are meant to go with an evening outfit, but aren't really intended for walking.
I don't bring enough to have a constant parade of full, completely different outfits, but I always pack more than I think I'll need. Back in the days when I packed light, I always seemed to need something I didn't have due to weather, changed plans, unexpected invitations, etc. Now I cover all bases, and go home with some things unused. But at least the stress of travel is greatly decreased. I don't enjoy traveling, so throwing everything I think I might possibly need in my luggage makes it all much more pleasant. Just not having to worry about it (and being able to be more spontaneous and prepared for whatever happens) makes traveling much more pleasant for me.

I take only one color scheme with me.....that way, everything goes together

I'm planning on 7 tops, 3 pants (2 jeans, one dressy pant) 7-8 underwear, 2 shoes (one dressy) 6-7 socks, 1 pj, only the jewelry I'll wear during the flight. This is for a 9 day trip out of the country, 2 days alone will be taken up for getting to the destination. I don't want to check baggage, so I'll have a 20" carry-on and tote.
When there's a will there's a way!
Just out of curiosity, are you counting your travel clothes/shoes, and will you wear the same items on your return trip?
I'm not counting my travel clothes, so I'll actually have another pair of pants, a top and shoes (most likely comfortable walking, slip on type) and one fleece coat. But yes, the plan is to wear the same for the trip home. Hopefully the weather in St.Petersburg (Russia) will not be too cold by late April- I won't have room for bulky sweaters etc.
