That is very light packing for a two-week trip!

Then on the plane I would look like a pack mule because I would be wearing all the other stuff that don't adhere to the 5-4-3-2-1- rule!

I laughed out loud at your post, magic. I agree, it is very light packing. I *may be able* to pull it off for our week in So Cal, because we won't be doing the beach all day/fancy dinners out every night.

The lightest I ever packed was for a 4-day weekend in NYC, including one night on Broadway. I packed eight pieces, all black and coral, and it all fit in a carry-on. I have a black w/coral stripes silk "poncho" that I wore on the plane; I could have used it for dinner and the theater and eliminated the sheer black poncho I used for our evening out.

Re: 5-4-3-2-1 Pack Light Rule

Here is a piece of advice-

Take more than two pairs of shoes, even if one is just a pair of slippers. Two vacation tales:

I went to the beach with BF's family and used the local branch of my gym. I packed one pair of tennis shoes for the week of exercise (which was dumb, since we DROVE) and on the first day, within a half hour of exercise I had rubbed the skin off the backs of both heels. Not only did I have to limp back to the condo with my shoes hanging off like mules, but I never could get a bandage to stay on to keep the blisters from getting infected. I had other shoes (Birkenstocks) but I couldn't wear the tennis shoes again for the rest of the trip. {#emotions_dlg.glare}

Many years ago, my brother and I went to Europe, to the city where I spent a year abroad. I was already familiar with the climate and customs, so I didn't pack any tennis shoes- just sandals. In an effort to economize on my packing, I packed two pairs of sandals (one black, one brown) and they were the SAME pair. Well, after a day of cobblestone streets, my feet were barking and I had grooves from the sandals across the tops of my feet. But no worries, because I had another pair of shoes, except they hit all the SAME spots that the others did. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Even for my six days of Christmas break, with "light" packing, I took a pair of sneakers, one pair of cowboy boots (which I wore on the plane), one pair of sandals, and a pair of slippers. Lesson learned!

Re: 5-4-3-2-1 Pack Light Rule

My clothes never take up much room, but for me it's the shoes, purses, jewelry and hats. I can never pack light. I have a fear of not having what I feel like wearing when I get there, ha,ha.

Re: 5-4-3-2-1 Pack Light Rule

This is a good list for light packing but it depends on what you will be doing when you travel. So if going to a really nice restaurant for dinner is on the itinerary then you will need more than this. But not a bad list.

Re: 5-4-3-2-1 Pack Light Rule

I am not very good at packing light. For one thing, I love shoes. Sandals for the beach, tennis shoes or Skechers for walking/working out, heels for dinner out, and flats for sightseeing. That's at least 4 pairs right there, assuming you only bring one pair of sandals. LOL. I have thought about what I'd need to do to pack lighter and will be working on it. I could live without the tennis shoes and heels. But for two weeks, I'd need:

Black ponte knit blazer and/or denim jacket

Cardigan - Red

Simple black ponte knit or matte jersey dress

Black pants

Khaki pants (or red if I'm feeling adventurous)

Black leggings

White jeans

Indigo jeans

Black ponte skirt

White denim skirt

Button front shirt - French blue or white

Tunic top - White or black

3/4 sleeve shirt - Black and white stripe

5 tanks or t-shirts (black, white, yellow, red, turquoise)

Scarves/belts to coordinate

Black or red flats

Grey Skechers Go Walk shoes

Black or tan sandals

I could make a lot of outfits from these pieces.

If I had access to do laundry, the list would work.

Wow, you posters sure are heavy packers! You all sound like tourists, not travelers. I feel sorry for you.

Re: 5-4-3-2-1 Pack Light Rule

If I am not doing anything extra like going to a fancy event, this would totally work for a 2 wk trip, I could even do with three bottoms and mix and match. I dislike lugging things around on trips so paring down is something I am always trying to do.
