I hope someone can help me. My new HP 8.1 computer has a mind of its own and zooms in and out whenever it feels like it. I think it is the Synaptic Touch Pad but I can figure out how to stop it. It is driving me crazy and I will have to return the computer if I can't resolve this. I am hard of hearing so calling is very stressful. I am very appreciative of any help. Thank you.

My laptop does this sometimes. The times when it does it, I am resting my wrists on my laptop as I type and inadvertently brushing against the touch pad. When I raise my wrists and there is no contact, I don't have a problem. Try that -

You can always go into the touch pad settings and decrease the sensitivity. I personally hate a touch pad and use a wireless mouse.

Should be in your control panel

My laptop does the same thing. When it happens, just press and HOLD the ctrl key and then press the minus (-) or plus (+) sign to decrease or increase the size of the page. HTH!

If you aren't using the touch pad anyway (I hate them, too, and always use a mouse), you can just turn it off. Either in settings (control panel/mouse) or there is usually an 'F' key to turn the mouse off or on.

The touch pad can work similar to a tablet or smart phone screen. You can open and close your thumb and index finger to zoom the screen in and out. Sounds like you're inadvertently touching the pad with more than one finger.
If you don't want to use the feature, uncheck the Pinch Zoom box in the settings. You can highlight each setting and it'll show a video of what each one does.

Thanks for your help and suggestions but more problems began and I am sending this back tomorrow. I just don't need all these problems and frustration so back it goes!
