windows 8 will not turn on, blank screen

hi, I have the new dell windows 8 laptop, my husband and I both use it, when I went to get on it had my name and under it, it said locked. i couldn't figure how to unlock it ( as i never lock it!) so I closed the top and went to look up in my Windows 8 for Seniors for Dummies! When I came back all I get back is a blank screen, how do I get in? or reboot this?
