voice change on Alexa

[ Edited ]

Did anyone recently have Amazon initiate putting a different voice on their Alexa devices ? We did. We did not recieve any notification that I was aware of. I was just having my normal day of boring chores, and all of a sudden heard a male voice (i was home alone) . It scared me to say the least. (neither dog barked). I grabbed my phone prepared to call 911. I then recognized it as a notification of weather alert on an echo. --not appreciative of Amazon's sudden changeover .

Neither DH or myself asked for this. It turned out there were  choices of 4 male or female voices (with silly explanations of the voice types = this is an understanding friend--calm -blah blah blah. I went to the Amazon site and after the usual combing thru seemingly endless 'info' got it changed back to the 'sing/songy/ tech voice that I prefered.

I know people that feel these devices are too intrusive. We enjoy the timers, alarms, weather info music of just about any kind and feel we have such boring lives that who would be spying. 'gotta' admit I thought of these people after that.😒😊

I have an Echo (Amazon) bedroom clock.  Recently, it must have done an update or something because it looked and sounded different.

I didn't like the voice so I asked Alexa to go back to the original voice and she did.  Electronics are wonderful, until they're not.

Yes. My grandchildren recently visited, and we suddenly had Alexa Plus. It's free, but I never liked it. There was a different voice, and the other choices weren't pleasant to us. Our saved "Ambient noise" programs were changed as well. I just asked Echo to get rid of Alexa Plus, and everything was restored as before.

I didn't like it either and switched back to regular Alexa.

You could always change and/or add a voice (male, female & a celebrity since DOT generation 1 many years ago.  I assumed it started w/the original "Echo-Tower."

I have NEVER named my DOT Alexa nor used Alexa's voice.  2 queen bees cannot live in MY household.

The voice I have is the UNcensored Samual Jackson voice which was FREE in the beginning.

I believe celeb voices are now 99¢.

I kept receiving emails about Alexa+. We didn't want it so I did nothing. The voice was changed anyways. We could not stand the squeaky kid voice so we switced it back to the original.

I had the voice change too and had Alexa switch it back which worked partially. My old original Echo kept the old voice, and my tablets, Dots, and Show are a mix. Some old, some new. It's kind of like I'm living with two women now, depending on which Echo responds to a prompt.
