Hi -- after many years i finally bought my first ipad at the apple store -- the new 9.7 inch inew ipad -- not the pro.  I have never had any tablet before and was very excited and confused.

Some of the set up was done by a person in the apple store --but unfortunately she said I did not need the thumb print id thing and did not give me the passcode number.

Unfortunately i do not have wi fi in my apartment yet and have to go to the lobby to use it.

A secret mumber was emailed to me to enter and somehow i did not enter it right and kept making some type of mistake.  Now I am completely locked out of the ipad until i have the whole thing erased or something -- have no easy transport to the apple store as i don''t have a car.

Has anyone else ever had this probles  -- i'm afraid if i can get in again i will have the same problem with the number..  By the way I need a new computer -- having email and internet trouble -- i don't understand why you have to have a computer to use an ipad

help

First, you don't need a computer to use an iPad.  I know several people who only have an ipad and they do just fine.  Secondly, I'd call Apple support and have them try and reset your iPad over the phone.  Since you're locked out, I can't give you the instructions I know to reset the device.  Third, I would never have someone tell me I don't need something like the thumb print ID.  It's not their place to decide what you need or not.  Be advised, if you enter an incorrect password 3 times, you'll be locked out.  Being accurate is essential when entering a password and that includes upper or lower case.

I think you have to call apple.

This is why i am slowly hating Apple.  You have to connect to a desktop to save/back up your device which is a hassle.  You never have this problem with Android.  Technically you should not need to connect to a pc but my stupid iphone prompts  me to do so.  drives me nuts lol

I wish  i lived in your city  i would be glad tohelp you. I know how to do the reset  if you  were able to gt to the settings

I love my samsung tablet so much that I sold my ipad.

I never had issues  with my samsung and an android has more customization options. I also have an ASUS Zenpad 8"  it has a better screen resolution than an ipad  and faster too.

if you manage to get in go to settings  then to general  then to reset  then choose reset all content. it will reboot and talk you threw the setup process. No need to have an associate to help you

That's not true.  You can back up to the cloud.  When you are locked out of your device, you can't get into settings.

If you are going to back up to a computer, you need iTunes.  If you are doing a backup to the cloud, you don't.  This is what you need to do:

How to back up with iCloud
  1. Connect your device to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Go to Settings, tap on your name then tap iCloud.
  3. Scroll down and tap on iCloud Backup.
  4. Tap Back Up Now. ...
  5. Make sure that the backup finished: Go to Settings,  your name,  iCloud, iCloud Storage, Manage Storage, then select your device.

Because you set it up that way. Go to itunes on your desktop and click the picture of your device, on the summary page under backups click icloud (not this computer) and on options click sync over wi-fi. Then click done.

That's not true.  I know several people who don't have a computer, only an iPad, and they set theirs up fine without iTunes or a computer.

You misunderstood my post. I know very well it doesn't require itunes to set up.
