my DH (who rarely emails anyone) gets hundreds of spam/junk emails almost every day. literally hundreds. he had 350+ since yesterday.
is it likely a password problem? or an email address problem? or something in his settings?
would changing his email address and/or password solve the problem?
I use email a lot and usually get between 10-20 junk emails a day.

I found that when I had an email address that was common (like "JohnSmith@whatever") I got loads of spam email. When I changed it to something more specific and difficult (like"IamJohnathanJSmith@whatever") I don't get any spam emails anymore.

His e-mail address has been sold to spammers. Changing a password will do NOTHING to stop the junk mail. If I had that many everyday, I'd close the e-mail account and open a new one. FYI, never have only one e-mail address.

I have never had just 1 email address. That way I get all the spam in just 1.
My email name on one account is a nickname with a common female and male name (Junebob) and you won't believe the spam snail mail Bob gets. No such person exists! He needs to join AARP, bad!

But why has that email account been targeted? Is he clicking on all the advertising 'come ons'?
I had a friend who would couldn't tell junk from real and opened & clicked on everything, and would forward junk mail to me! So their spammers had my email addy as well.
You might want to consider leaving that email address active as his "junk" address, and open a 2nd email account for legitimate communication only.
(When I was working I had 10 email accounts).
@MariotaMurielle, You haven't mentioned applying filters to try to eliminate all the incoming junk mail. Explore creating filters on your email account. It's very easy, and it can stop even the most persistant spammers from loading your inbox

@x Hedge, he doesn't click on anything. he hardly ever even uses email. the only reason he even knows about this junk mail is that he checks his email account on his phone when he sees them pop in. I didn't know about filters for junk mail. I'll check on that.
even though he doesn't use email, it's just irritating that he gets so much junk. my concern isn't the number, but that it's a symptom of possible vulnerability.
we'll change his e-address and I'll explore filters.
