You can download the update yourself.  Go to the "Settings" app.  Tap "General", then "Software Update".  It will then check to see what your current iOS is and tell you if you have an update available.  Download and install.

That is exactly what's happening.  When Apple products reach a certain age, they no longer get some updates.

I have an old IPAD air, mine also reads 12.5.4.  My phone is an 8, and it worked.  Hmmm.  Not sure what to do now.

@on the bay   my 6s updated to 14.8 as did my older iPad

@millieshops,

Thank you for letting me know. My daughter's 6se updated but mine is just a 6 and it just says updated (for a 12.5.4). So I guess I just won't worry about it anymore.
