iPhone 5 searching

I've had my iPhone 5 since Oct. This past Saturday, it would not connect; searching was displayed at the top of the screen. i could not make phone calls or text. I could use Internet through wi-fi, but that is all. I went to Verizon this evening and they are sending me another phone. Has anyone else had this problem?
