iPad iOS 11 help, please

[ Edited ]

I am very upset because I seem to have accidentally allowed my iPad to download iOS 11. I already knew I didn’t want it because I tried it on another iPad.  Anyway, I’m hoping someone here would help me.

Using the previous software version, I would bring up a little calendar, say while I was using Safari, by sliding my finger to the left from the right side of the screen. I used this a lot, frequently looking at days. I’m not talking about a calendar with my events, just a regular little calendar.

In ios 11, this cannot be done. Is there any way to look at the calendar?  I know I can hide the screen I’m on and then click open a calendar, but I don’t want the page I’m on to disappear and I want just a tiny calendar where I can look up the day of the week of, say of April 1.

 Oh, I have spent hours searching in Google and Apple Support for my answer and could not find, so, please, if you know, help. Thanks.

If you drag and drop the calendar icon into your dock, you will be able to upward swipe and see the day/date from any screen.

Hope this helps!

@JGalt

Sorry, I don’t know but I will search this feature for you.

Is this an app you had downloaded? I really could use something like this, it sounds handy!

 I just wanted to add that you can take this one step further so that you can swipe it from the side and access the app like you used to do. Once it’s in your dock at the bottom of your screen, you can press and hold and then move to the middle right of your screen.  It will stay in your dock but now you can swipe left to access it while you have another app open such as Safari. I keep my calculator there all the time. Occasionally it will disappear and you have to reposition it but it works pretty well.  You can Google for better instructions if needed 😀.

Re: iPad iOS 11 help, please

Thank you, @PeanyMcDougall.  I’m not trying to see today’s date.

I want to look at a monthly calendar that allows me to scroll to other months than the current.  As this is a function I did many times a day, it’s making me nuts. The advantage over opening the calendar app is that I could do this slide thing, look at the calendar as I needed, then slide it right back, without ever leaving the safari page on which I was principally working.

Thanks, @LTT1.  No, no app. It was just a calendar that came wth the iPad and worked in the split screen function of iOS 10.  I could also bring up a calculator the same way. When paying bills, or shopping online determining costs, I look at the calculator.  But what I like is the taking  a quick look then slide it away, without ever leaving the page I’m on,

Re: iPad iOS 11 help, please

@tucsongal, I did put my preferred calculator app in my dock, but when I open it, it consumes the entire screen. I guess with that one, I just need to learn how to do a split screen.  I read there is a way to do that from when on the Control Center page, but all that requires leaving the page I’m on.

@JGalt

Ok I managed to do the calculator on the side screen (in Safari).

My new calendar app will also go to split screen (in Safari).

Will try it in Chrome.

in Google chrome, neither my new tiny calendar app nor the calculator will show in split screen. But happily, my email will!

I am so excited about this! Thank you very much!

With the additional knowledge gained her, I was able to learn the feature I wanted is called “slide over”.  Knowing the terminology facilitates seeking information.

Maybe @PeanyMcDougall described this function and I hadn’t gotten it....because one’s touch is now a critical skilll (with iOS 11).  If a light touch is used vs. a firm touch when doing a “slide”, the resulting function varies.  To do a “slide over”, one must use a light touch when sliding up the Dock.  A firm touch when sliding up the Dock takes one to the Control Center page (are they called screens?)

OK, so I now can bring up my calculator as a slide-over.  YEA!!!  Progress.

I don’t like the new calendar in iOS 11, so I must search for a calendar app like the one in ios 10.  The iOS 11 one seems unable to be shrunk to be small.
