iPad battery change questions.

[ Edited ]

Has anyone here had the battery on their iPad changed? Where did you go to have it done? I've read that there are now Apple authorized places that do this that are not Apple stores. Any information about your experience or knowledge of this subject is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Re: iPad battery change questions.

@Mindy D   You may want to give Apple CS a call if no one hear has had any experience changing the battery.  I know on the older ipads you could not.

Re: iPad battery change questions.

I took my last iPad to a nearby battery store that I thought could do anything related to batteries. NOPE! They said it's almost impossible to open the iPad to remove the battery without damaging it. I think your best bet is contacting Apple customer service (not the Geek Squad). Good luck!

Re: iPad battery change questions.

My son in law ordered a nw battery and tools on Amazon and replaced my battery.  he also replaced a broken screen for his son.  No previous experience.  There are numerous places that replace batteries and service all electronics.  Check Google

Re: iPad battery change questions.

A long time ago Apple would not even sell the batteries to third parties, so even the local store that dealt only with Macs couldn't get them.  However, that seems to no longer be the problem.  DH got the battery replaces in his current iPad at another local place called Smart Phone Medics.

The Apple store moving into the area apparently was the kiss of death for the long-time Mac store/repair shop.  I always took my Mac there and bought from them because they were totally local and independent, but I noticed recently as we passed by that they were gone. Had to take my Mac to the guys above to get a new keyboard.

Re: iPad battery change questions.

@Mindy D  DH called Apple even tho his iPad Air was way out of warranty when his iPad battery was failing.  This was a couple years ago.  It is a first generation iPad Air.

What they did was tell him to back it up.  They had him go to the UPS store.  They packed up the iPad I can't remember who generated the return label.  As soon as the UPS store recorded the return label he got an email that Apple sent out a refurbished iPad...it looked like new and is still going strong.  He got it in a couple days.  The charge was $65.00....DW

Re: iPad battery change questions.

Apple lets you mail your iPad to them and they change the battery. My friend did this with her phone. She was very satisfied but she had to wait a week to get her phone back. There's information on Apple's website and you can call them about it too.

I had read that they were expanding into having local places they work with change batteries too, but all I found online today are independent places. I want a genuine Apple battery, so I not willing to try this.

@dancingwoman @I read a lot of accounts from past years where apple returned a different phone. My friend sent hers to apple about 7 months ago and they replaced the battery and sent back her original phone. I hope that's what they are doing with iPads.

I don't think it can be done.  You'll damage the device prying the case open.  This is true with most computers today.
