Thanks, @Jk9.  Gonna definitely check setting for keyboard info.  I have to call Apple anyway cause they just sent me and email saying I only have a short time to add Apple Care.  Heck, I'm pretty sure I added that to my order.

Well, folks...just as mysteriously as the little gray circle appeared on my iPad, it disappeared.  I think as you said @Jk9, it had something to do with the track pad, me touching it unknowingly to make it appear.  I'll be talking to Apple soon and will definitely bring it up.  Thanks for all input.
