Re: iMac email help needed - frustration galore!!

dionline, I'm sorry you're still experiencing problems -- you've posted in several threads about the mail problems on the Mac, and I hate that the trouble hasn't been resolved. I know it's frustrating. I'm like Shawnie -- I prefer to open the browser and use that version of my mail but sometimes I add it to the native app on the Mac to troubleshoot for others with problems.

It's often helpful to delete the mail accounts from the computer (How to Delete/Remove Email Account from Mac’s Mail App), then re-establish them as new accounts. You don't lose the mail because it's there on the provider mail server(s). If a simple delete doesn't work, you need to check in the Finder library to be sure no files were left behind during deletion -- but no need to get that technical if the simple delete works.

I agree with dooBdoo - you need to delete/remove the email account from your Mac mail, then set it up again. The links I provided above a few weeks ago show you the set up steps. Use the link on dooBdoo post to delete it first.

Re: iMac email help needed - frustration galore!!

This happens to me on my mac from time to time. I have no idea why. Sometimes it says I need to enter my gmail password, sometimes it says it won't send from one or another account. Most of the time, it resolves if I close mail and reopen...or shut down and restart.

In the short term, I just use the drop down and switch to sending from a different email address. It's never all of them at once...usually one at a time. Weird...

Re: iMac email help needed - frustration galore!!

Karsa, thank you. It helps to know that I'm not the only one this happens to! I shut this thing down before work a few days ago when I was unable to delete any emails!!! What's the first thing an IT person will tell you? Shut it down and restart so I did. I was able to delete (actually when the email program came back up the emails I tried to delete were already gone...). But this 'unable send' thing persists.

I have a question when it comes to deleting my email accounts - I have some emails saved in folders (upcoming travel emails, etc...). What happens to those emails???? Doob and Lynn, let me know.

Computers - can't live with 'em and life stinks w/o them. But they're frustrating as all he11!!!

Hi, again, dionline! Yep, all my years in IT support have trained me to "turn it off, wait 10-20 seconds, turn it back on," along with the other standard troubleshooting steps.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

When you create new folders/boxes/labels (different providers call them different things), you'll see them in the app on your Mac and also in the online mail account. Take a minute and go to your email accounts using the browser instead of the Mail app, and you'll see the folders there, too. Deleting the account on the Mac Mail app will only remove them from your Mac. I hope that helps.

One reason I don't use the app is the fact that it tends to be "grouchy,"{#emotions_dlg.scared} and to me it's easier to have my primary email account as the home page when I launch the browser, and my secondary email accounts are bookmarked. I also like having the full features available on the browser version. But I know many people prefer to use the native Mail app.

Re: iMac email help needed - frustration galore!!

Doobs, thank you SO much for the above reply. It made me check my Yahoo mailbox, specifically my 'Travel' folder as I just booked our annual cruise last night. The email confirmation I got was NOT in my Travel folder!!! What the heck?? Well.....the 'Trash' folder is right above the 'Travel' folder and that's where I put it!!! Luckily it takes a few days for my Trash folder to self-delete so I was able to find it and be sure it's now IN my 'Travel' folder!! (whew!!!!)

I feel better about deleting the email clients from iMac and reinstalling. However, the community I live in has a twice monthly Mac user forum that I can attend. It says to bring your gripes, problems and solutions with you to help other Mac users. I think I'll be heading over there to see what they have to say. I'm always in search of an easier way to do things. I'm hoping for the miracle cure where they say I only have to click Command + T and it'll work. I know it's a pipe dream but hey, it's what I do. After that? I'll be consulting the earlier reply here to see step-by-step how to reinstall them. I know the outcome, I just have to try!

I'm glad it helped, dionline! The iMac user forum sounds perfect. You have a fabulous attitude, a great sense of humor, and those are assets to troubleshooting problems without losing our cool and tossing the device out the window.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Best wishes to you!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I wish I had a good answer...but I mainly wanted to post in solidarity for exactly that reason - so you'd know it wasn't just you. I'm glad to know it's not just me, too LOL

As for the emails saved in folders...they should be safe. I've never lost any of them when I've deleted an account. Fingers crossed that you will find a solution soon.

Re: iMac email help needed - frustration galore!!

Are the folders you are talking about - the one you have called Travel Folder - under a section on Mac Mail app that is called "Saved to My Mac"? If it is, those will not show when you go to Yahoo.com to check your email. Why? They are saved on your Mac, not Yahoo. LOL.

If you scroll down below that Saved on my Mac section, that is the section for folders that are synced with Yahoo. Do you see folders there? Of course, you won't see the same folder, or a duplicate, of the saved on m mac travel folder. But, maybe you have other folders with other titles there?

If you move the emails from the travel folder in the saved to my mac section to a folder in that lower section, then they will be available for viewing if you check email on yahoo.com.

As far as I know, emails in folders in the saved on my mac section WILL come back after you delete the account and re-set it. I've had to do this a few times with my email, and those emails always came back. But I also have a back up of my computer on an external hard drive. Do you have a backup?

I know how to find the place inside of the mac where it is saving those emails to. But it is very technical directions. If you have a backup, in the event you delete the email account and those emails don't come back, I could provide you with directions to get those emails from that place on your computer, but we would need to use your backup. However...I am 99.9% sure that those emails will come back on their own once you re-set the account.

Lynn, Is this "saved to my mac" specific to Yahoo mail? I looked just a little bit and don't see anything on it -- but I don't have any Yahoo mail accounts to use for a test. Maybe it's right in front of my nose and I'm just looking past it!{#emotions_dlg.laugh} I want to learn more about it, since I don't normally access mail with the native mail client.

I agree, I hope everyone has a good backup. And, true, we can access the files (I mentioned it briefly in another post) but it's probably not a good idea unless someone feels really comfy getting in there and knows how to fix problems if they make a mistake.
