e-mail question and touchpad

I have a question about my new Dell - On the "tiles" it says "MAIL"--- I noticed that when I e-mail --and then sign out- that if I click on that tile --it shows my mail! WHY? I signed out on it yet it's still available via the tile without the password requirement!. Anyone know why?

Yeah, I could call but sometimes it's quicker to ask someone here!

BTW I DID have to call the other night (I'm in the "learning" stage of 8.1- what fun (not)----and the tech even said he preferred Windows 7--- and he told me (after I lamented about 8.1--- that 8.2 would soon be forthcoming maybe a few months as well as Windows 9 probably next year!!! UGH!!!!! Trying to keep up with technology but it's crazy.

Plus my touchpad is weird- sometimes I can shrink or enlarge the page by using both hands- sometimes not at all-- can't scroll along right side like on my old laptop ( have to hold down with cursor on far right of screen where the bar is or use up/down keys. Frustrating but one time I called CS for help and they just screwed up more.

Oh, and one more question- I noticed someone wrote about the classic shell download on CNET-- when I went to Cnet- it said it was for windows 8---is it also for 8.1? TIA!!!!

Re: e-mail question and touchpad

I'm not even going to write a response to this....... if you don't want your email signed in all the time, why did you add an outlook account to windows? SMH......

When you yell at the people who could help you, why would anyone bother? I have the answer but since you told me not to respond to your posts, you are on your own.

Re: e-mail question and touchpad

It sounds like when you first log onto your computer with your user name and password, you are more than likely using a Microsoft account, which means you are already logged into your email.

If you are a local account instead of a Microsoft account to log into your computer, then I do not have the answer for you.

I hope this helps.

Re: e-mail question and touchpad

I wish I could help you I just received a new HP laptop with 8.1 in April I signed in with my local account because I had no Microsoft account and I did not want to sign up for one.

I go right to my Windows Essential mail no problems I was happy with the local account I don't use any of the tiles I did not care for the touch pad so I bought me a wireless mouse at Office depot works great. Windows 8.1 is really easy to learn just take your time and you will figure things out. Good luck.

I "yelled" because the person who answered did not "answer"-- plus- you also responded- after all didn't you?----you didn't offer an answer but you did respond ----anyhow -- ONE time mentioned your answers to people who are not as computer savvy as you say you are and were just as sarcastic as "William Joseph"- his response was taken that I was too stupid and he was "above" it all.
You do sometimes give answers- and sometimes you don't -and I know you checked that other person's post because you wrote a response to me,-- just as this person did and I called you on it. I don't want a war- I just made an observation and you didn't like it. I'm sure that when people ask a question they're just looking for help- maybe they didn't go to tech school- maybe they aren't building their own- maybe they just need help and after searching other forums- they come here.

And they don't expect a snide remark as a response.

Thank you autumnsunset. I was under the impression that I had to sign in with my Microsoft acct because it is a requisite for Skype.-- and the first thing they ask on these new computers ""to get started""------I'm not sure what is meant by a ""local"" account. AOL? Gmail?
My old computers didn't require a password but I do use them - however I recently signed up for Skype with this new 8.1 system - well it's a learning curve after all these years.

No, you didn't just make an answer I didn't like. You wrote a nasty post pointing out everything you don't like about me. Sometimes I give a lengthy answer and sometimes just one word. It's not for you to tell me which style I post.

BTW, you can find the answers to your questions by doing a Google search and reading. The answer to your mail question is no, you can't change the automatic sign-in with the mail tile. It's built-n to the operating system. You can also change the sensitivity of the touch pad through the control panel. You can also use a mouse. If you don't like the answers I provide, move on.
