cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

Locally, the cable company advertises a low rate of $30.00 month for basic cable, the catch is that each box is $7.00. So the effective rate is really $44.00 for the standard home with two tvs. Because of the extra cost I do not have a box for the rarely used tv in the guest room/office. Do you pay extra for each box and how do your rates compare? We actually have the HD package so our rate is $99 with two boxes, plus tax on top of that.

We have three HD boxes with Comcast.... at $8.00 a month EACH and two regular boxes( not HS) at $1.99 a month EACH. This is for Basic cable.... My total cost for TV only( no phone or internet) with Comcast comes to $130.00 a month. I pay another $75.00 a month with At&T for my internet and landline.

My cable company is Bright House. I have standard service (approx. 70 channels) no boxes, and pay with taxes and fees $78.00 a month. Too much if you ask me, but they are the only game in town.

interesting.... they started charging us for all the small boxes about a year ago. I called them out on it and they just said they changed the policy.... from being grandfathered in to not paying to paying....

we have comcast xfinity......we have 9 boxes total. there are 3 different types of boxes you an get. we have several hd, several regular, and 3 of the basic boxes. the basic boxes are 1.99, the hd boxes are 9.99 i believe, and the regular boxes are 7.99 i think. we pay A LOT for all of those boxes!

shel, how are you getting one box for free? i have to check into that.

we pay a whopping 270.00 for our not so basic cable (lol we like all of the premium channels), high speed internet, and 2 phone lines.

Mine is pretty much the same with Comcast, however I have my phone line with comcast and my total bill is about $160. I have two DVR boxes, and insurance policy (for service) and two adapter boxes that get signal and all the stations but no option to record like the Infinity boxes. I live in Maryland, western part and I am assuming prices differ from area to area. I don't have all the movie channels, just HBO for my visiting children and grandchildren.

Re: cable users - do you pay extra for boxes?

I have Comcast. They charge extra for the boxes. I have 2. Actually, I think 1 comes with my plan, and I only pay for the 2nd.

My bill with them is ridiculous. My rate for the triple play package, with all the movie channels, costs $170. When its all said and done with everything they nickel and dime me for (modem, outlets, taxes...the list goes on and on) my actual bill is around $220.

Comcast can get away with this type of rate in my area because they have no competition. Although I could switch to DirectTV or Dish, but there is not other cable type of option in my area at this time. Others who post here may have options in their area, and then will get better rates.

I think the rates, and charging for every other little thing is pretty standard with all cable and satellite companies.

I have time warner and pay to much! every time the bill goes above $160.00 I call and they give me a new program. I was amazed to discover that when you pay for boxes you also pay a ""service"" fee to use the box! So they actually cost double what you think you are paying. Sonnie
