Actually my IT person built me a computer (long story) and he used ASUS and swears by them. He told me good price, and solid product.

His Newegg extended warranty was great fortunately. The ASUS my daughter wants is a 'Best Buy only' model. The extended warranty is through The Geek Squad- how I dread that! I used them several years ago and had such a runaround with a simple upgrade.

Does it really matter where this Asus computer comes from? Newegg would have more inventory than Best Buy. What model computer does her college or university recommend? Do they have any discounts or service contracts?

The 'Best Buy only' model is under $1,000. Asus models elsewhere with 'like' specs are hundreds more. Asus told me you need to get the warranty from point of purchase, otherwise their guarantees are voided.

My son has an ASUS for school- he's in an Engineering program. And my daughter wants one for her college needs- Graphic Arts. Some ASUS models have the higher end specs they need-- and it doesn't cost as much as the more known brands with 'like' specs.

My son has had to send to back for repair a couple times now- not sure if it was the computer or just HIM!!! Buying the full 3 year warranty was well worth the investment for a $1000+ laptop.

Why would any one want a PC for graphics, a Macbook is the way to go and their service is amazing

A Macbook costs a fortune, and has a very high theft rate (on college campuses especially).

I speak from 30 years experience as a Designer and a Mac user, a PC will be a difficult to use for the job

Let's see if her college career results in a professional career first! A Mac can always be her graduation present.

"Other shopping channel?" Asus is sold on both HSN and ShopHQ. {#emotions_dlg.huh}

I have done other posts about mentioning names of other shopping networks. I was told the following by a fellow poster.

According to the Forum Standards its okay to mention them as long as you don't post specific promotions, sales or specials and prices of another company. Of course sometime there is inconsistencies depending on the section of the forum you are in....{#emotions_dlg.glare}

I was wondering the same thing- plus there are many many Asus models offered on Q as well.

I just wondered if anyone knows anything about the brand of Asus.I have heard of it and the other shopping channel has a good deal on one

I have a Asus 14"" touch screen laptop for more than 3 years. It's great product. No problems so far. Good bang for the buck. I bought mine at a Big Box store. BB.
