any TV/electronics experts here? having an odd problem with our TV

I know, I know. this is not a TV repair website. but before I call all over town trying to find out where I can haul my big, LCD TV I thought I would ask for some pre-TV shop information on what we may be dealing with.

we have a 4 or 5 year old Toshiba LCD tv. it has started doing something strange when we first turn it on: on the right edge of the screen a 5 inch strip of multicolored vertical lines appear. the multicolored strip lasts about five minutes, then disappears. the tv seems perfectly fine , the color and clarity of the picture is great. I'm sure this weird multi colored vertical strip is an ominous sign of something ridiculously expensive about to happen.

any ideas about what is happening here?
