Wireless (RF) TV Headphone Recommendations

I'm looking for good sound quality rechargeable wireless RF headphones to watch TV late at night - that don't cost an arm and a leg.

The two that Best Buy carries - their own Insignia brand and Sony - the reviews for both mention static. The one Radio Shack carries is out of stock. The "radio ears" brand digital is $200, so no thanks on that (the non-digital affordable one is old tech that won't work in my situation).

There are quite a few if I google, but nothing that makes one stand out - they all have good & bad reviews.

Does anyone have one they're happy with, and which one? If you have the Sony or the Insignia have you had problems, or not?

Thank you!

Re: Wireless (RF) TV Headphone Recommendations

Did you visit the TV Ears website for information on all their products? Not sureif  this helps, but...I had to replace the earphone portion (the base was still working) for hubby and did order them directly from the company via website because Radio Shack does not carry them anymore.

We have a HD/flatscreen tv now, that we didn't have at the time of the first purchase, and the customer service person at TV Ears gave me the information I needed to get the best replacement.  Hubby was happy with the purchase.  Your situation sounds a little different though, as I am not sure about the RF you need. Smiley Happy

Hi @MoodeeFan, and thank you.

Yes, I have visited the site. From what I understood, of their two products, the original is geared to older TVs as far as the connecting aspect is concerned. The digital one is ideal, but I'm not willing to spend $200 for it. I will investigate some more, but I don't think at this point the original is a good choice for me. But, maybe I just haven't "gotten it" and could use a re-read.

@Moonchilde  I got an RCA one from Amazon a few years ago and it is great and easy to use.  I don't remember what I paid for it but it was under $100.

Re: Wireless (RF) TV Headphone Recommendations

Thanks, @hckynut - I have looked on Amazon, and there are soooo many choices - which is why I'd hoped someone might have a recommendation.

I don't want or need to go cheap OR expensive, I'm looking for middle of the road that people haven't had problems with. Almost everything I've looked at, people either love it or hate it.

I like the TV Ears if their basic model will work, just because they aren't over-the-ear & no need to worry about fit. I need to dig out my TV manual/schematic & see what my connections are. Don't want to move the TV until I have to. If it's not digital only I can buy anything.

[ Edited ]

My DH has head phones for the TV that saved my sanity. He would honestly turn the TV volume as loud as it would go.  It was extremely and I could hear it blasting while I was upstairs.  We couldn't even be in the room together.

He went to visit his cousin and noticed that he had head phones for his TV.  He wife could not take the high volume either.  My DH came home with the name of the head phones,on a piece of paper and said to order him a pair from Amazon.

i ordered 1 receiver and two head phones.  I have never used them except to try them out, but we have a spare if we ever need it. The quality was great and even tho I hear well, there were sounds that I never noticed before.   I guess our TV's speakers are not all that great.

The product we have is made by Sennheiser...model TR120 and are about $70 I would highly recommend this product. We have had the headphones about two years now with no issues.

It was very easy to install.

sorry about the font change.   That happened while I was trying to type while holding a flash light to see the model number.

it looks like the new model number is now RS120 when at looed it up on Amazon now.

Thank you, @Carmie - that's great to know.  That's one of the one I've been looking at. Good price and Sennheiser is "the" name in headphones. Glad to have a personal recommendation.

Re: Wireless (RF) TV Headphone Recommendations

OK - I've made a purchase I consider an experiment.  Even if it's a bust, I'll only lose $6 & some change max.

I was reading on Amazon and came to the Amazon Basics headphone. What intrigued me was that a reviewer had the Sennheiser & bought the Amazon Basics one specifically to compare the two on all points.

He felt they were pretty close to a tie, and in the areas most important to me he rated the Amazon one better. The downside is that many people have had a part on it break off very easily after not having it very long (bad batch from the factory??). So I bought a Square Trade Warranty for $6-something.

If it breaks within factory warranty I'll get a refund. If it breaks out of factory warranty I'll still get a refund - and it's only $30 anyway.

My main problem with the Sennheiser is that the transmitter and cradle are relatively large and tall compared to other headsets. Where I have the TV (no choice) the only place to put it would stick up into the viewing of the TV. It's just too big.

So fingers crossed this one will be okay & not break, and if it does, back to square one. But at least for now it won't cost me much.

Re: Wireless (RF) TV Headphone Recommendations

@Moonchilde

That is exactly the one I looked at on amazon after I read your post. I have bought many things for my audio and video systems that are Amazon Basics. Not a 1 of them has given me a problem, and some I have used for well over 2 years.

In my many decades of working with, and on electronics, I have never wanted or needed them. There was an era many years ago where they "were THE thing" for audio. Supposedly enhanced ones listening experience. Not mine as I was more into Quadraphonic Sound with multiple speakers. Since I had/have only 2 ears?

Don't see how any thing that covered my 2 ears would or could make True Quad Sound better. I listened to many of them and some did not even reproduce True Stereo Sound, they used a synthesiser to try to make it sound like 2 separate audio sources. Didn't come close to real stereo sound. Anyways,

Hope this suits your needs.
