My problem is trying to get the 8.1 patch. WE just bought a new computer. I can't tell which dang version we have and if we have the patch. I hate this computer. Might try to take it back.

Anybody know how to clean out stuff already in it?

How do I get my solitaire? All I had to do was click on the side for it on 7. I don't want a lot of other ones some you have to pay for.

Thanks nutmeg. I think I'm just going to take it back. It is really VERY difficult to use.

I need to now just make sure I don't leave passwords and stuff in it..

The user has the choice of how things will look; XP, windows 7, etc. It is a free download, several places offer a version of it. The best way I can suggest knowing you found the original is there will be a request for a donation. The donation is entirely optional. I love it.

'Classic Shell' is one of the tools I have on deck in anticipation of receiving my husband's new computer. I still have to check it out and check reviews but, so far, it seems sound.

I installed the Classic Shell on my Mom's computer. My IT guy at work told me about it when we were talking about Windows 8 and how many people didn't like it. My Mom has a love/hate relationship with anything electronic. Windows 8 was driving her crazy. The Classic Shell has truly been a Godsend for her, and me!!

When I first bought my new computer I hated Win 8. It was just different. Now that I use it doesn't make a difference. Unfortunately by 5 month old HP just DIED. I called Sun, rec'd a new motherboard today and they are sending a tech on Thurs. to install (I expected a box to send it back) so I am only without it for a few days, No Charge! I was very surprised. Will be interesting to see how professional the tech is. In the meantime I pulled out my old computer.

I did not like the Windows Live email, spent and decided I was not paying to have Outlook. I spent a little time today and found oe.com which is a free download of an email very similar in appearance and function to Outlook Express. I have spent some time using it, playing with it and am very pleased with product.

To Scottie: I really hated trying to figure out Windows 8 and almost sent my new computer back, I considered having 7 installed, then I found Classic Shell. I am not a computer tech, but I am also not totally computer "dumb" either. So, if you are like me, somewhere in the middle, Classic Shell may be a good option for you too. I feel it makes me comfortable because the look is familiar while at the same time I am using up to date OS. I felt the same way about the oe.com email I found today. Just having things look and feel familiar was all I needed. I still want the old solitaire and mahjong I used to enjoy. I sincerely hope this info is helpful.

When windows 8 first came out you could set it to boot right to desktop and skip the tiles, but people are too lazy to set it themselves so MS did it for you. BUT it's always been there.

Thanks for the add'l info on Classic Shell. In looking at it more I realized that I've actually used it before. I think I got some info from it to put the 'Quick Launch' back in my lower tool bar. I really missed that when Win 7 came along and Quick Launch was not part of it. So I add it back in. On my first Win7 computer I didn't know how to do that (later on I found the instructions online) and used Classic Shell for that.

I don't mind change but it's a drag when they completely remove useful features. I guess everybody doesn't like the same stuff I like. Ha! Imagine that. Smiley Happy
