When they have already given you your password in a series of dots?  This drives me crazy.  Some sites will only text you and we do not use a cell phone at home because we are deep in the woods and have no service?  Meanwhile anyone who knows my name or email can get into my account, not that I'm worried.

Are you referring to the QVC site?

Most sites with two-factor allow you to choose among text, email, or landline.

@depglass - Who are you talking about?  A lot of sites now offer two-step identification for increased security, but it's usually the customer's choice.

And why do you say anyone who knows your name or email address could get into your account?  That doesn't make any sense at all.  There are people who know my name and email, but they don't know my password.  Therefore they couldn't access my account.

Perhaps you could explain more, exactly what your concern is?

@depglass @It's supposed to enhance security, but that's just not working. They want to text you. Right now, there are so many phony texts out there that you can't tell the phony from the genuine. I prefer email or phone call to cell or to my landline. Some companies give you the choice. I like getting the code on my landline that rings and then there's an audio code  that I can put into my login at these websites. I don't usually charge my cell when I'm not going out, so I don't use that number as a two factor phone number.

@ValuSkr @Only some allow landline. I wish more would do so. I'd rather answer my phone and hear a code.

Read MindyD's post.  She explained this a lot better than I could.  I've run into this numerous times.  If you can't receive texts you are, well you know, I probably can't say that word.  Two major sites that use this system are my health provider and my stock broker.

Venezia, they don't need your password.  The sites I am speaking of give the password in a series of dots.  So they know it.  And I or anyone else doesn't need it.

Because they are trying to help delay all your money going to Russia or China or North Korea.  Be thankful every time you have to do 2 part id.

I guess I'm just not understanding.  I never allow any site to store my password, so I enter it every time I visit a website.  So, for me, there's no problem of anyone else being able to access any of my accounts.

I hope you resolve whatever the issue is.

Most sites that I use that require it have the option sending a code via text or email.
