Why can I get free games on my iPad I but have to pay for the same ones if I want to play on my Mac?

Beats me. Our home is strictly Android systems.

I only play games on my iPad, not my Mac. But I can tell you that mobile apps (your iPad) are different than apps for your computer. So I can see the makers of these games not creating the type of app that syncs between both your iPad and Mac. So even if you paid for the game on the Mac, it will probably start out as if you were a new user...meaning you wouldn't be at the same level you are on the iPad version of the game.

If you buy a game designed for your iMac, you can also play it on your MacBook Pro because it's designed for a computer's operating system. As posted, it's not the same game when it's designed for the iPad. If it's an online game you play at a certain website, that might be a different story. Can you share what game or what site?
