For the longest time I have had Norton Antivirus. I would like to wean myself off permanently. I've noticed with every subscription renewal my laptop slowed down further to the point it sadly became the little engine that couldn't. Consquently, I could never run a full system scan without my computer freezing or the background scanner running when I wanted to to turn it off. In the past, I have had to pay out-of-pocket to remove what the techs told me were multiple viruses on my system. This was a nightmare as I had to go through 7 technicians including supervisors to fix the so-called problem.
What are some good alternatives for antivirus protection? What type of protection do you have? Have you found it work well for you? The other day I stopped in Best Buy and one of the service reps mentioned their most popular anti-virus protection programs are WebRoot and Microsoft Essentials. Anyone familiar with those?
