I was on my computer at JC penny when my computer went crazy . It said it was windows and I should call a number. I shut down my computer and then turned on and did a scan with webroot. I then thought I would chat with a webroot agent and they ask for my phone number to dectect and diagonised any problem. I wasn't sure what to do so I just exit out. It said it removed 8 threats. Is that normal for them to ask for a number it was throgh best buy where I purchase everything. Thanks.

NO!!! You did the right thing to shut it down. Do not give ANY information. This scam was just on the news this week.

Do not call any one from any program that shows up on your computer unsolicited

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

Had the same challenge this past week.    I called my Cox tech-support (I pay extra for this)..........and was told it was SPAM, and to just hit the OFF switch, and restart in the usual way.

Re: Webroot and my computer

[ Edited ]

Public Wi-Fi can be sketchy.  And when you say computer, you are referring to a tablet, right? Or you were using a laptop in Penney's?  Then my question is why?

I've had webroot for years.  I've never talked to a webroot rep unless I am renewing my subscription (I do 3 years at a time).

My sister had some crazy thing happen on her computer re: windows.  I told her, don't panic, shut off the computer then re-start and run webroot.

She's had no issues.

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.
