Verizon Iphone4

Well I'm done waiting for an Iphone5 so I'm now deciding between a 16gb or 32gb Iphone4 from Verizon. Never owned a smartphone but of course plan to get lots of (free!) apps. My question is whether to spend less upfront and perhaps eventually fill-up the 16gb and then be forced to get a new phone in 2 or 3 years OR do I start off with a 32gb so I won't have to upgrade as quickly. My initial thought was that I would probably want an upgrade in a few years anyway to get the latest and greatest version so I should pay less now. Any ideas on which of these is the most popular choice?
