I’m not a hanger-outer at Starbucks, but was in one today and when I signed on to their wifi, a message popped up that I think was actually from Starbucks asking if I wanted to download the AVG VPN app. The app and others like it protects your info by giving you a different IP address than Starbucks, so the guy sitting in the corner can’t tap into your business by going through the Starbucks wifi ID.
AVG is not the only such app, but I trust them and use their virus freebies.
There’s a free 14-day trial. It’s $20 if paid yearly, and IMO well worth it for anyone using unsecured wifi anywhere - Starbucks, McDonald’s, the airport, restaurants, the mall.
It’s probably in the Apple App store too.
