My voip phone, the voip box and my router (provides access to the internet) are plugged into my battery backup. All three are needed to get voip phone service.

If internet service is down, that is something beyond our control and so voip phone service will down also. Nothing I can to about that except use my cell phone.

This is my battery backup. It's about the size of small computer tower and weighs about 30 pounds:

Does your generator provide power to your router and phones? Sounds like it doesn't.

@SilleeMee - Our generator does provide power to keep them charged, but with the internet out with the mainline electricity, we can't use them.

The generator gives us lights, keeps the refrigerator and freezer, furnace, water pump working.  All the essentials.  And we can watch things we've recorded on the tv (or dvds).

I recently attended a presentation by a satellite internet provider and found out that, if the power goes out, we'd still get internet.  However, we're happy with Spectrum, so we just use our cell phones, during an outage.

(Sounds like I don't need an additional battery backup.)
