We have had a Tracphone for about a year and have but liked it. We recently decided to move to AT&T on our son's plan which would cost us only $15 each for unlimited time. When we tried to port my phone number that we have had for 40 years to my new phone with AT&T we are told that Tracphone now owned it and wouldn't release (they resell them) it so we had to get a new number. They said it had something to do with a new law changed about 6 months ago that because the companies like Tracphone are not actual carriers they (Tracphone) own the numbers. I am furious!! QVC and the "Other" shopping channel should tell people this when they sell the phones. I never signed anything saying I was giving my phone number to Tracphone. The public should have been notified that the law was going to change in order for people to change phones if they wanted to,keep their numbers. We were told by everybody we talked to that there was nothing we could do! People that had their phones before the law changed should not be subject to the new law. New buyers beware of you want to keep your phone number you will have to stay with Tracphone for life.

scratchy

Have you been to the FCC website to see if AT&T  is telling you the straight skinny about "this NEW law"?  You can't believe everything AT&T tells you. I worked for Western Electric/AT&T for 33 year, and they told us employees some REAL BIG Whoppers.

My wife switched from Tracfone, 1st to Virgin Mobile and ported her same number over. She also ported her other Tracfone to Sprint/ported same number no problem. File a complaint through your States Attorney General against the FCC, if you think you got taken for a ride.

While I am not sure if the OP has gotten the correct information from the phone company, I failt to see how this is an issue with QVC.

If the rules changed, how is it in QVC's control.

Why would QVC sell an item based upon something one cannot do.  That is like buying a car and then complaining that it does not fly because there's a flying car in the movie "Grease."

Have you called tracefone and asked them to release your number?  I'd go that route.

Thanks John, will check although Tracphone told us the same thing. Something about Tracphone, I think Virgin Moble and similar that actually use someone else's towers and they are just resellers. You never know. I will definitely check it out. How long ago did you port and keep your number?

KYToby... Not sure how your flying car analogy applies and I of agree that it is not QVC's problem to a point but they should have a disclaimer if it is true as it might save them from returns and upset buyers. I love QVC, I have been with them since the very beginning and CVN before that so believe me I am not blaming them.  Tracphone should include a disclaimer with their phones. The product rep should keep up on any laws associated with their product and inform management so that the hosts are presenting good information.

It's like the new Keurig brewer. You can't use the old K cups in the new 2.0 brewer, they have to be the new ones although the boxes say Keurig it has to be the new symbol with the 3 dots that make up the left line on the K. Also the brewer only does not have 9 brew sizes, it has to be the one with the carafe to have that many sizes. They may have now changed their demo's, I haven't seen one lately. I found this out when I recently bought one.

II bought a Tracphone....but a man's name comes up every time I call someone...not my name (I'm a woman by the way.) So, I called customer support..technical support...and they had me on hold while they tried to 'verify information'.  Then, it ended up that I needed to call another number to get someone to help me.  It was quitting time for them, so I called the new number the next day.  Well, they put me into the same procedure.

Both asked me for another phone number while they investigated info.  I told them I don't have another phone.  This was inconcievable to them!

I have wasted at least 20 minutes...more...and my friends won't answer the phone..(until I tell them that I am "Arthur"...and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix this.

? sounds crazy....?
