Molly your making a very broad statement. There are always going to be bad parents. My niece and nephew dont even ask for the tablet very often. They wood rather be outside rollerblading and riding their bikes. Just yesterday my mom was watching my niece on a rainy day and they sat in the playroom and colored and my mom read books to her. Sure a little bit during the day and on long car rides they will play on the tablet..

She played outside in the woods, played sports, read books, had friends, and now she's an engineer. My problem with these tablets and iPhones is that the second a parent is annoyed or the kid is whining, BAM!! Slap a tablet in the kids hand so they'll shut up. Look around next time you're in a restaurant, the grocery store, or even the car next to you. The youngest of kids all have their faces buried in a tablet or mom's phone. Can't you hear, "My kid is only 2 and she already knows how to get right to her games on my phone!" There's time for all that later. Right now is the time when you raise kids to interact and have fun and empathy, not "download." JMO.

Actually when a kid is crying and whining in a grocery store or restaurant, I appreciate the Moms slapping a phone or tablet in their hands to shut them up. At least they are being courteous of the people around them that have to listen to it. And YES, I have 3 grown kids and 8 grandkids.

I preordered the Amazon tablet for my 3 yr. old granddaughter as she always wants her sister's Ipod. What I like best about it was the 2 yr. warranty - no questions asked if anything happens to it, she drops it, etc., it is replaced with a new one. I got the lime green....Can't wait for it to arrive and check it out.
