Activating the phone does not automatically put the min on - that is a separate step you must do and you have 6 months to do it.

Wow ladies you are the BEST..... thanks for all the replies.....so this is what happened.

After posting my frustration above, I remembered the automated phone person had said, "if you have any further questions send an email to care@simplywireless.com. I no sooner sent it and I got a response! INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE.......

Olivia, the representative sent me a detailed email explaining the 'deal'. My triple minutes are for the life of the phone. All that was used up were the 1200 telephone minutes......which would have expired on April 15th, 2015 if we didn't use them. In my DH's case he doesn't text so he still has text and data left. But apparently the phone must be replenished before the April expiration.

I called tracfone, bought minutes, charged them to my credit card, and just as Olivia said the minutes were tripled when they loaded them to the phone (they ask for the SEI (also known as) serial number of the phone). It took about a minute to load.
