I know this might sound clueless but the legitimate companies asking for 2 step verification with a phone number, I always think, isn't that giving more information to potential hackers? And phone numbers can be re-used, so they don't always identify the correct person? I don't know.
What does anyone think about this?

I am one who does not carry a cell phone with me. I am not refusing to carry one. But It is hard to use with visual issues and hard to carry while using a cane or walker. Because I am alone, I do wear a medical alert device which is what I use if I have an emergency.
