TODAY'S MACBOOK AIR

[ Edited ]

I looked at the product description.  Caution:  It has MacOS El Capitan.  That is an old operating system.  This is also an old computer.  Apple no longer makes the 11" model.  They're now 12" or 13".

The new Mac computers come with MacOS High Sierra; the latest version is 10.13.3.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

What does the new one cost?  I agree I should be aware, but I also know that no matter what I buy, for my use I have little reason to pay for the very newest system.   I'm not a gamer or a big saver of pictures or music or videos, so my needs are limited.

I did that once in my computer life -  it was the most expensive mistake I've made in the over 30 years I've had a computer in my home.  I'm unlikely to repeat that error!

Go to the Apple website.  You'll see various models and various prices.  You can upgrade this computer to the latest operating system free of charge through the Apple website.  That's important to get the latest security features, if nothing else.

It’s nice to have easy pay for big ticket items but I’m a little dubious of buying items like this from the Q.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE  DO NOT BUY THIS 3 YEAR OLD LAPTOP FROM QVC TODAY.  It makes me so angry when QVC does this all the time with electronics products.  The Apple deals are always horrible because they inflate the price and then add on cheap accessories, many of which you wouldnt need anyway.  But this is the other thing QVC routinely does.  They sell OLD devices and technology.  Whether its Android phones with 3-year-old operating systems that will never get upgraded or this OVERPRICED 2015 Laptop.  Anyone wanting a Macbook Air should do a little research.  Thats why you have the internet.  The MSRP of the current 13 inch Macbook Air is $999 but for Presidents Day WEekend, retailers like Best Buy have it on sale for $749.  So you can pay $200 less than the QVC price and get a current model...or you can pay more, get 3 year old hardware and get a cheap cover and a mouse that if you really needed it would cost you a few bucks.  PLEASE DONT FALL FOR QVC'S TACTICS.

It really is sad.  You can get a refurbished, up-to-date 13" MacBook Air on the Apple website for less than this price.  You get a 1 year warranty and you can get Apple Care to extend it to 3 years.  Apple refurbishes it's own products and I'd trust that before I'd buy this computer.

It really is sad.

@millieshops

You can pay less and get more than what QVC was/is selling this for. Also, QVC is touting this as the best thing when they aren't telling people it is a model that Apple has discontinued. I just checked Best Buy's website and they have the 13.3" for $899.99

Hi @sjmplus1  ... I checked the Apple website.  The most current version of the MacBook Air starts at $999.00.... only $50.00 more than the outdated, discontinued version QVC is selling as a TSV.

There's another question that came to mind.  These computers were supposedly discontinued in late 2016.  It's now early 2018, and a "stash" of them is being sold as brand new.

Where have these computers been since they were discontinued?  How did QVC get them?  Did QVC buy an "oversupply" from some authorized reseller?  Did Apple sell what they had left over to QVC?  If you bought one and wanted to add Apple Care through Apple, would you be able to?  Are these computers still under the original warranty?

It's just strange.

You can buy Apple Care no matter which retailer you use to make your purchase.  It is illegal to sell anything as new if it isn't.  So, these computers are not pre-owned.  These computers may be old but, it the hardware is not obsolete, you can update to the latest operating system.  I thought about buyng it because it IS an older operating system.  I've had problems with my games and other software/peripherals not being compatible with the last 2 operating system updates and wouldn't mind having acomputer with an older version.

As long as a company doesn't make illegal claims, like this is the newest version, there is nothing illegal about selling older technology.
