@PickyPicky3 @Please forgive me if I came off as telling you what to do. I certainly didn't mean it to sound this way and I'm grateful for your post. If I had not seen it I might have wound up with problems from them. It's nice of you to alert us.

Is it unsafe to use a debit at Amazon or Instacart/Publix for groceries?

Is it unsafe to pay a copay with a debit card at a primary care doctor's office?

@Mindy D   The customer service rep at my bank said she would never again use a debit card for autopays. She also said they are flooded with debit fraud right now.

I guess "safe" is in the eyes of the beholder. It seems debit cards should never again be linked to accounts with a lot of money. I would think debit cards should never be stored with any company online.

I would never be comfortable using a debit card for anything other than a withdrawal at my bank's own ATM. That's just me. I use my credit card for auto payments and most other shopping. I enjoy the reward points accumulated. As long as the balance is paid each month there is no interest accrued.

I figure I could use my debit shopping and have payments come out in drips and drabs, or use the credit card and get benefits. At the end of the month it still all comes out of the same checking account.

@PickyPicky3, would you be able to have T-mobile gift cards in your account and have payments made that way?

That's what I do with Amazon. With Amazon the credit card on file is an old expired card. I do all my shopping with their gift cards that I've bought with a credit card from a grocery store that gives you "points" for your purchases. Then the points are used towards gas or groceries. So I feel rewarded twice, plus feeling I'm less likely to be caught up in an Amazon scam.

@Etoile308   No, T-Mobile has said debit card, or even worse, direct access to checking or savings accounts.

I have a debit card I only use when traveling and need cash from the ATM.  Otherwise, I use my Rewards Credit card which I earn cash back  or other rewards and pay the balace in full every month.  During the time I've had my cash back or rewards credit card, I've received over $4,000 in free money.
