Suddenly cannot send & receive emails?

Help! Just started getting a message on both my Ipad and IPhone that my password is not being recognized so I can't send & receive emails. I didn't do anything to change the settings! I finally went to My Apple ID and changed the password, which I entered in my settings on both devices. I still get the same message, and I can't send or receive emails. What happened? What should I do? Thank you!

contact your provider........maybe they are having technical difficulties

The fact that it happened suddenly on both devices would make me wonder if you changed your email password. Nevertheless, the first thing to try: Go into Settings and delete the email account, then set it up again. Be sure you enter all info correctly when setting it up.

Don't bother. It's an encryption problem on the providers end. When they fix it, you will be fixed.

This happens to me sometimes on my phone and pad. Not sure it has ever happened to both at the same time, but maybe? Anyway, I just go to settings, click on mail, and re-enter the same password. Then I hit save or whatever it directs me to do. I don't create a new password, just use the same. All is fine after that. Not sure what causes this. Maybe something gets disconnected in some way. By the way, I use Comcast email. Not sure if this happens only specifically to Comcast, but thought I would mention.

Not true. Either re-entering the correct password or deleting and re-creating the account fixes the problem immediately. Smile

This sometimes works for me, too, Lynnj. Other times, it requires completely deleting the account and setting it up again. It's a known problem with iPhones and iPads, and it happens with pretty much all the email providers.

Good to know it's not just Comcast, dooBdoo. Glad I am not alone with this issue. Thankfully I haven't had to delete the email account step yet.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately I tried all of them first, and nothing worked, that's why finally I tried resetting the password. I'm going to try going into the actual computer today, and next may be the dreaded trip to the ATT store! Don't you hate those surprises!

It's fixed! After a totally worthless visit to the ATT store and about 2 hrs on the phone,so I thought I would pass the solution along in case this ever happens to you! The key is that you have to reset your password - in the desktop computer! My mistake was going online via the IPad. THEN you delete the mail account and enter the info again as a few people suggested, and the, most importantly, delete and re-enter the password in the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing settings, even though the dots may indicate that it's already there. Hope this saves you some time!
