I bought a new TV with only digital audio out. My Bose Cinemate couldn't connect and I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars to buy a new system. I bought a digital audio converter and an optical audio cable and everything works. Be advised, this can happen to you if you buy a new TV and have an analog audio system.

Re: Solving my TV audio problem

And depending on what you are plugging into the converters can cause a lot of problems too. I have a Samsung TV that between it and the digital converter the system can't decide if the signal is PCM or Dolby so I get no sound until I reset the signal.

Re: Solving my TV audio problem

I had the same problem. I ended up doing something different, being the techno geek that i am. I bought a switcher, and connected everything I have associated to the switcher. Then connect the switcher to the tv. Sort of same theory as what you did, but the switcher has many various connector input/output for many various types of connections. i also programmed the switcher to work wirelessly with my iPad and iPhone. So I control everything using either one of those. turn things on/off, change tv channels, navigate through Netflix to search for a movie or show, switch songs, etc. only thing I can't program it to do is take the DVD out and put a different one in, lol. But with on demand cable, Amazon prime, Netflix, and ituenes videos, I very rarely use the DVD player anymore. Been a few years actually.

Re: Solving my TV audio problem

I'm only plugging in my audio system. In fact, it's only a digital to analog audio converter. Between having a smart TV, smart Bluray player and Apple TV, I can watch anything and everything I want. I don't needs switches or other gadgets.
