With my Motorola phones, logging into Google on the new phone was all it took. With my latest (and soon to be last) Samsung, I had to use their app to switch everything over.

I'm not a big fan of the Samsung ecosystem. Too many apps I don't want and can't get rid of. Moving my data over was more complicated. Smart Switch wasn't impossible to navigate, but I never had to use it with Motorola phones. Samsung seems to like to make everything harder. I know a lot of people love Samsung phones, so I thought I'd give one a try. Yeah. Back to Motorola for my next phone.

Now, to be fair, part of that data transfer issue could be due to changes in the later versions of Android and not Samsung's fault, but the apps they load and won't let you get rid of is all Samsung's fault. Why do I have to know Samsung's "Global goals"? Yeah. I don't. But I can't get rid of it. Why do I need a Samsung branded browser? I don't. But I can't get rid of it. Not my favorite phone by a long shot.

@gardenman I will be glad for you when you get back to Motorola.  I would feel just like you do!  I really, really like the '24 Power.  I have it saved and may buy another one when it goes on discount to have for next year when my unlimited texts and minutes run out.  We bought a new-to-us house right after I bought the phone, and I have been on the phone SO MUCH!  I have been very glad to have the unlimited minutes and texts, so I don't have to keep monitoring them.  Irl, that would not be an issue, as I am a light user, but like I said, this aspect has been nice.  My husband has the phone, too, and he thinks the battery lasts longer and that it charges more quickly even just using a 10w charger.

Yeah., I mean the Samsung is fine. It works. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was a good phone. I just know better. Amazon has confirmed Prime Day again this July, so I'll see what they have to offer and go from there.

QVC has the 2023 Moto G Power for $79.99 now, and the Sylus II for $99.99, so I've got options. My service is already good through September 2026, so I don't need extra service now. I can bide my time and shop the right deal. Depending on what Amazon offers,  I might splurge and up my typical phone budget a bit. I'll see what happens in July.

@gardenman  So if I buy a new Motorola phone and want to transfer everything from my Samsung all I would have to do is log onto Google?  I've had a few Samsung phones and have liked them but what's keeping me with my 5 year old Samsung is the dread of the big switch.

That's always how it worked for me in the past. But, I've always been going from one Motorola phone to another. I'm not sure if switching phone brands changes that or not. And that was always with older versions of Android. Newer versions may work differently.

When I switched from my old Motorola to the new Samsung this year, I had to use Samsung's app to switch everything over. Is that a Samsung thing? A new Android thing? I don't know. I'll probably be getting a new Motorola phone sometime in July/August/September, so I'll find out for sure then.
