I remember my grandparents' rotary phone had a cloth-covered cord, which I hadn't seen anywhere else.  This was in the 1950's.

My old Hematologist's office in Philly was still using a rotary phone in 1990, which drove his receptionist/secretary, Monica, absolutely insane. She'd make a call and be instructed to "Press one" to connect with someone and couldn't do it. She had to hold on and wait for a different option.

Recently we took our grandkids out for ice cream in a retro ice cream shop. We sat at a table and in the middle of the table, as a decoration, was a big yellow rotary phone, not the slim kind, but the big ones that sat on a desk. Our six year old grandson looked at it, played with it a bit, and then said, “How do you send a text?”

Sometimes I Wish we had them back.  The WORLD NEEDS an EXERCISE IN PATIENCE these days.
