I recently got "sold" on a Roku3 after going to Radio Shack to buy a micro-Hdmi cable in order to stream Netflix from my Kindle Fire. The guy told me I would get all these "free" channels and I wouldn't even need to use my Kindle Fire to stream Netflix. Well, that's all fine and good except I haven't found anything "free" about it! All the channels or apps or whatever they're called are free for a month, but you can't get your free month unless you give them your credit card info so that they can automatically charge you after your "free" month is up!
Also, I'm not sure if it's a Roku issue, Netflix, or something else, but the shows I watch through Netflix always freeze up/stop/pause to buffer. It's quite annoying, and many times I have to start the program over and f/f to where it left off.
I probably should just return the box, but I've already registered it and used it so I decided to just keep it. But, reading other positive comments here, I'm feeling a little better about it overall.

It could be your internet connection. You need a fast service to stream.

Tv's and dvd/blu ray players are moving into smart features which allow connection to services such as Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, etc. Some of these devices also allow you to connect to your own network to view digital content such as pictures, video and music.
Whether or not these devices can replace cable would depend on how attached you are to the shows you watch. You lose the channel surfing feature and there's no grid to flip through. Also, sports is thorn for cable cutters. Its virtually nonexistent.
You can access your favorite shows through a media other than comcast, fios, twc. The question is when you want to then you investigate devices like roku, apple tv, wd live and other streaming devices.

Yes! It is also advertised as being able to pull in the signal easier than the other Rokus because it has more oomph. I luv mine, but I still haven't cut out Comcast quite yet. Target also sells roku, sometimes on sale. Really, the picture is flawless. You have to have wi fi .

I have Apple TV and a smart Blu-ray player. I doubt I need a Roku but thanks for the information.

I just received my Roku 3 today. It was a breeze to set up. It was just like my blu-ray player, in terms of how you set everything up.
I just had to sign into my Netflix account on it and I was ready to go. Then it guided me through getting hooked up through my Amazon account. Took more time to figure out where I was going to plug it in than it took to get set up.
The only thing I should do one of these days is see what other channels would be of interest to me. I have absolutely no clue and I have only used Netflix and Amazon with my streaming devices (Tivo, blu-ray player, and now Roku3) so far.
Glad I got it when I did. While I was in the Amazon website getting hooked up I noticed that it went up by $10.
Must be getting too popular.

We have roku's in all our bedrooms. We love it, kids love it, but only 2 people can use the Roku for Netflix at a time, we don't like that. This is because of Netflix tho not Roku. I am considering adding huluplus to ours. The original Roku offered Hulu for free, wish we had that one. I am planning to buy the newest Roku for our living room, the only TV without one in the house. Does Roku 3 have a youtube app?
AS far as free channels, we have not found them, except for Crackle, a free movie channel that none of us enjoy, and Pandora for music. I have heard others exist tho. You do need to have fast internet and you will avoid freezing and reload issues. We are considering getting rid of cable too.
I think I will get ours at Costco, but I am sure Walmart, Target, Best Buy etc. all have this, but I don't think QVC does.

Sonnysky - Yes, Roku 3 has You Tube.
QVC will probably have this model as soon as the next model comes out and they will STILL be overcharging. heh
I got mine at Amazon and it was $89.00 but now I see it's $98.00. Maybe it will go back down again. I think it was $89 at Walmart too, when I got mine, but I don't know if it went up there too or not. It did go up in price on the Roku site about the same time it went up on Amazon.
