Requesting your expertise

This may be a duplicate post, so I apologize if it is. My laptop skipped. My cursor flies around the screen every 5th or 6th word. It has a mind of it 's own.

Pretend that I am a person who needed to mark the start button on her laptop for about a week so I could remember it. That is not a stretch. I need to update my 5 year old laptop so am asking for recommendations. I do not want another laptop.

I want to read on it. I want to be able to surf the web a bit. I want to go on QVC and visit these forums, maybe post a little. I want to buy from Amazon, maybe a couple other sites. I would like to pay bills and do my taxes at the end of the year but if that's too much, I still have my laptop for that. I just paid someone $300 to put a new hard drive in it so I intend to get my money out of that. Oh, and it would remain in my living room where I do have wifi.

What would you recommend I try?
