I rec'd a postcard on 11/5 from Time Warner, that a modem rental fee of $3.95 per month will be added to internet bill starting Nov 1st. I got my bill the same day, and the fee was already included. The only way to avoid this fee is to purchase your own modem, off their approved list (3 choices, all Motorola). I called Time Warner & got the fee delaayed until next month. Told me something about not providing service if I purchase my own. Modem is $56 on Newegg. I think this is just another way to raise their already steep fees. Anyone had to make this buy/rent decision? I think the modem I have now has been in my house around 10 years . . . Customer must return modem to their office to get rental fee removed.
