I am surprised those stores lasted as long as they have....

I worked for them part-time back in the late 90's, and even then there was talk.

They are now out of Fitbits. I needed a large capacity flash drive and was going to order the SanDisk 128GB USB Flash Drive which was $79.99 down from $199.99. I ended up doing a search and bought from B&H Photo Video (I've ordered from them before) at a price of $54.96 with free expedited shipping and no tax.
So I am glad I looked at Radio Shack since it reminded me I needed this flash drive. They just didn't have the best price.

I am sad about this! They have been around for as long as I can remember. Those of us who are more mature probably have more of an appreciation for this place.
Every since I can recall, any time we needed anything electronically, we would head to Radio Shack. They always seemed dependable and knowledgeable and if you needed help with something, they were glad to help you. DH & I have old trac phones and we have always gone there and they put the minutes on for us lickety split.
Another old time and very good place down the tubes. I will miss them a lot!!!!

Our RS store is still in the mall where I live. No great loss to me if it goes out. I always felt that they did over charge for certain items.

There is a RS in a local mall and I haven't been inside it in probably 10 years. I remember buying a battery for a cordless phone, but that was ages ago and the battery was not cheap. Now it's more cost effective to just buy a new phone when the old one acts up. Yes we still use the landline at home.

RS has saved my butt many times during the time I was a group exercise instructor and needed components for the amplifier or my wireless microphone. Perplexing to think they might not be ""out there"" for this type of product. We don't know what we've got 'til it's gone. Radio frequencies are becoming a hot (and regulated) commodity and we might be glad for a basic cable again.

I agree with your post, AngelPuppy. They carried a lot of unique electrical or electronic items, that (in my opinion) you just could not find anywhere else. My husband and I would end up going to Radio Shack to find something that we needed sometimes to complete a phone connection set-up, or to help our computer set-up, or whatever it was that we needed, and they always had it when another store didn't have what we were looking for, so I will be sorry to see them leave.
They have already closed up some of their stores in my area.
