Questions re: Malwarebytes and MS Essentials

Have had the free version of M for years and liked it very much. A few days ago I downloaded the paid version. First set it to run in real time, but it scanning every hour I did not like, so changed it to daily. Shouldn't it have automatically started scanning at the assigned time? It did not.

I plan on downloading MSE in a couple of months when my Macafee subscription runs out. My question is does MSE have a firewall and if not will the Windows Wall suffice?
