Questions about labeling DVDs

I haven't burned that many DVDs, and the few I have, I used Lightscribe to label them. After all these years, I've decieded to finally copy my old video tapes onto discs and will be using regular DVDs, not Lightscribe. I've heard that you can use a Sharpie to write directly onto the discs, but wanted to check that out with those of you who would know more about that kind of thing. If there's any possibility of damaging the discs, I won't do so. Also, would it hurt the discs if I were to stick a little label on them rather than write on them. Would really appreciate advice about this. Thanks!

Re: Questions about labeling DVDs

Use a sharpie.  No damage ever.  I have a rainbow of sharpie colors.  Movies-blue, family suff-green, etc.

DO NOT use labels.  They can damage your disc player.  The labels can loosen and/or the glue will soften/melt right inside the disc player onto the laser lens & parts.

FWIW...

My printer prints right onto DVDs.  I only go there when I do something fancy for a family member.

Re: Questions about labeling DVDs

Sharpies work well.   I used to make a lot of CDs - haven't done so in a long time- but back then I had purchased a product at Walmart I think that allowed me to make labels for the CDs that were very nice.I think the company was called Fellowes.

Re: Questions about labeling DVDs

Thanks so much, Mz iMac and Roni18, for answering. Greatly appreciate your help. I do have one other question, though. Do I need to get Sharpies that are specifically made for writing on DVDs, or would any Sharpie do? I tried checking this out on the Internet, but came across completely opposing opinions on the matter.
