Questions about New IBM Laptop

I purchased the new IBM laptop yesterday. I have questions regarding the software that is included in the package. I understand that it comes with Microsoft Word and Excel. I am using Microsoft Office Professtional Edition 2003 on my old computer. I have quite a few files that I need on the new computer. Will the new sofltware support the old files?

Another question, do I have to purchase a modem in order to use the internet?
