Question for a Computer Guru

Since getting a bunch of updates this month, my computer is running funky.  I have Windows 8.1.  I'm getting the message Fail Fast Exception.  I'm locked out of IE and Firefox.  Google is slow.  I'm unable to remove programs.  So........ my question is:

will a Refresh on my computer be good enough or should I go ahead and do a Restore?

I'll have to reinstall most of my programs anyway.

Or do you have another solution?  I'm tech challenged and don't know much about computers.  Or should I just bite the bullet and take it to the shop?  Don't want to spend the money if it's something I can do myself.  Would they reinstall my programs?

Re: Question for a Computer Guru

Reset Internet Explorer Settings. But before you do this, make note of your security and privacy settings you have for your sites. Then after you reset IE settings go back and recheck and see if they have changed.

If this doesn't solve the problem then a Clean Boot probably needs to be done. This is also referred to as a 'refresh' or 'restore' ...you can google the procedure which microsoft has on their site..."How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC" For 8.1

I  would stop using IE. Most sites like Google Chrome. Chrome is a better browser.

I agree. It's funny how I keep getting notifications from MS about how their Edge Expl is faster, more secure...blah, blah, blah...than Chrome. I finally turned it off.
